Thailand...

Around 1800 years ago Theravada Buddhism was introduced to the Thai people. Since then it has become the main religion in the country. It is so integrated into the Thai culture that most people hold that to identify as Thai is to be Buddhist.

Interestingly enough, most Thai people conform to the Buddhist tradition but are limited in their knowledge concerning the teachings of Buddha.

Today there are about 70 million people Thailand making it the 20th most populous country in the word. And although many missionaries have been there for over a century the Christian population makes up less than one percent of the country.

The city of Udon Thani is located in the eastern part of Thailand known as Issan. This is the area the Silkwood family have chosen to work. It is one of the least engaged areas of the country when it it comes to the Gospel.
